I finally received my long awaited Levine/Wiener Philharmoniker recording on CD of the Tchaikovsky ballet suites. It came all the way from Japan, but it came. And it is worth the wait and expense, many times worth it. Call me sentimental and sappy if you like, but I love this ballet music. I have the complete ballet music by Slatkin/St. Louis and the suites by Ozawa/Boston SO, which I like a lot, but oh my... this Levine/Wiener Philharmoniker disc is to die for. I photographed the disc before removing the wrap.

Hmmm...you couldn't find this recording in the used market or were you specifically interested in owning this recording in the Japan SHM-CD format?

I couldn't find it new outside of Japan. I am not shy of buying used CDs in general, but for high-priority recordings I only buy new. Some used discs I've bought for cheap are flawed. That said, even though I am a collector, I increasingly listen to Ultra HD recordings on streaming. I usually only collect SACDs these days.

I do buy a lot of new CDs, but I also buy used ones, but with the used ones I make sure I buy it from a seller I've dealt with before this way I ensure it's going to be in the desired condition. I have bought a lot of Japanese imports over the last few years, though. Most of the Japanese imports I own are of recordings that damn near impossible to find and/or have never been released before. I also quite like their remastering processes. Impeccable quality.

Bought a bit earlier this afternoon:

Bruckner: Symphonies Nos. 1-9, Eugene Jochum, Staatskapelle Dresden (Tower Records Japan Hybrid SACDs)

Also bought the only Mahler Suitner recording I was missing (also a Tower Records Japan release):

This Mahler 1st recording with Suitner is coupled with Strauss' Metamorphosen.

Definitely looking forward to listening to these recordings!

I also bought this box set using an Amazon credit I received and it only cost me $15:

I have that CD but I don't know where I got it. The CD case is like new.

Do you own his earlier Sony set? I own so many recordings from his DG years, so I skipped that set. The Sony set, however, is a magnificent achievement and is definitely worth tracking down if you can find it.
No. I don't own the sony set. I own the 11 schoenberg discs, and a couple others from it, though. Would still prob pick up the sony set if I could find it at a good price. Looking forward to digging into this dg set. Hope you're doing well.

I'll keep my eyes peeled if I see this set floating around for a good price in a desirable condition. If I find one, I'll definitely PM you. It would make a nice companion to the DG set you just bought.

Just bought:

I've been looking at this recording for quite some time and it was difficult to find here in the US, but thankfully a reputable Amazon Marketplace seller that I've used a lot in the past had it for sale. I love Herreweghe's recording of the Ein deutsches Requiem, so I'm expecting beautiful performances here as well.

Your enthusiasm (and the cover) made be buy that disc used (standard, non-japanese issue) as I found it used for EUR 3.
