Thankfully, the ignore function works better here. The nice thing about TC is that the probability of bumping into a "Todd" seems less than in other sites. However, be forewarned that there some of those here too that would have someone shot for disagreeing with their opinions or what they consider supreme. The point is to come here and share our love of music without worrying about who is right or wrong. It is about what speaks to us.
I bought this reissued set on release date. It's a beautiful presentation all-around. I like several of Kubelik's Mahler performances. I will say that Kubelik's cycle was historically important in that for quite some time he was the only conductor who had recorded the nine symphonies (Bernstein on Columbia/Sony was the other). Enjoy!Received this delivered at home yesterday (Mahler 10 symphonies, Rafael Kubelik). New in plastic but bought 'second hand'. I'm very happy with it. A beautiful edition with the original record sleeves on the CD covers.

Now I'm thinking I should get a bust of Beethoven like you have in your picture... hope you enjoy the Mozart too! I don't have those performances but they do look good.Bought second hand, online. Complete Mozart piano concertos with Uchida / Tate

I have loved everything I have heard so far from Gardner's Mendelssohn series with the exception of the 2nd symphony, which I'm actually not fond of, so it could be my own personal distaste rearing its' head. Looking forward to hearing the other volumes.I purchased this set of Mendelssohn overtures on (moderate) sale at Presto Classical. And then, I was so impressed, I purchased the other 4 volumes of the set, which include the symphony cycle, violin concerto, and Midsummer Night incidental music. Glorious modern sound and brisk but not hurry-sick playing.

The 2nd is certainly an acquired taste. The singing is in English In this one, which is certainly different. But the first three movements are pretty much a complete experience anyway if one is not in the mood for choral stuff. And the sound is as glorious as the other works.I have loved everything I have heard so far from Gardner's Mendelssohn series with the exception of the 2nd symphony, which I'm actually not fond of, so it could be my own personal distaste rearing its' head. Sure, but as a symphony, I just don't think it measures up to my favorites. Truth be told, my favorite Mendelssohn symphony is the 5th with the 3rd coming in slightly behind it. I'm going to revisit the 2nd, but will listen to the Abbado/LSO performance the next time around. The 2nd is certainly an acquired taste. I once bought that Beethoven bust (made of plaster) at a thrift store for 17.50 euros. I am still very happy with it. I always wanted a beautiful Beethoven bust. Now I'm thinking I should get a bust of Beethoven like you have in your picture... hope you enjoy the Mozart too! I think the 1st is vastly underrated. I like the 5th as well.Sure, but as a symphony, I just don't think it measures up to my favorites.
