Favourite thing about washing machines: They work away at night and when you're out so you don't have to rinse & scrub.

Least favourite thing about washing machines: Suddenly, out of the blue, they go wrong. Today, we find, the door won't open, and after watching a few upbeat 'how to' videos on YouTube, we've caved in and booked an engineer.

They also have a habit of going wrong when full of water.

Favourite Pet: Dog
Least Favourite: Stick insect

Favourite Dog Breed: Airedale or Border Terrier
Least Favourite: American Pit Bull

Favourite TV Dog Activity: Agility
Least Favourite: Dancing with trainer to music

Favourite Activity with Dog: Walking with him/her on the beach
Least Favourite: Walking across a muddy field

Thing that most makes me want to have a dog again: that lovely furry cuddle
Thing that deters me: the dreadful worry when they're ill

I remember once when I was a child going to the dentist and conversationally he asked me if there was any food I didn't like. I said 'tripe' and he said he'd once been staying at a guesthouse on a business trip and the landlady had served him dinner in his room. It was tripe, which he loathed. So he slunk to the loo on the landing - no ensuites in those days - and threw it away. It blocked up the sanitation system.

Out in the garden today.
Love - there's a primrose in bud beneath some of the dead dry stuff.
Hate: Creeping buttercup. It never gives up! The Uriah Heep of the Plant World.
