Choir director and composer
Clytus Gottwald passed away on January 18, 2023.
Clytus Gottwald founded the Schola Cantorum Stuttgart and remained its choir director until the end of the ensemble in 1990. His recording of Ligeti's "Lux aeterna" was used in Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey".
He became also well-known for his arrangements of orchestral works for choir. One of the best known ones is "Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen" (from the "Rückert-Lieder" of Gustav Mahler):
