Conductor Kenneth Montgomery has died at the age of 79 after a short illness. His husband Jan van Dooren announced this on Facebook. Montgomery was born in Belfast in 1943. He began his professional career with the Glyndebourne Festival Opera and The English National Opera (then Sadler's Wells Opera). After his debut with De Nederlandse Opera in 1970, he increasingly worked in the Netherlands.
