I can do more but some on here are really tired of the opera/ aria so I went with the best. Glad I did Garanca for Nina's memory.
No Berganza nor Vicky from L.A.?? No Gheorghiu either?
I can but Woodduck was grumbling and I like to keep him happy. I'll do the first two. We have so much Gheorghiu. I can take out Resnik if you think Gheorghiu is more important.
Blythe sounds...sleepy and uninterested here and the tempo is slow and draggy, the orchestra is boring. I don't feel she's attempting to seduce anyone though. Her voice is better than Garanca's.

Garanca is trying hard to seduce with no legato and very choppy phrasing. French delicacy is lost on her in this. Her sound is less rich and seductive in and of itself than Blythe's voice.

Meh.......I voted for Blythe and her vocal magnificence. At least there is a nice voice when I don't particularly enjoy phrasing from either of them.

No, just do as you had planned, but all those three are miles ahead of these two.
I wouldn't want to arouse Woodduck's wrath!

No Baltsa? For a few years she and Carreras were the Carmen and Jose of choice all over the world.

I'm sorry, Blythe has a better voice, but....she just reminds me too much of a drag queen. Gender-bendy opera singers don't appeal to me on either end, least of all in a hyper sexually polarizing role like Carmen.

This is not one of my operas so I am doing this for you. I had Baltsa in it but she didn't do all those things Woodduck asked for. . I will now make this a long contest. Woodduck will not be pleased. I was trying to whittle things down for him.

She was fabulous in the role at Covent Garden and I remember particularly how brilliantly she coloured the Habanera. Unfortunately i have to admit that by the time of the Met performance and the recording under Karajan, many of those subtleties seem to have disappeared. Maybe she'd sung too many performances by then. There is a video of her and Carreras in the finale, from Vienna in 1984, which gives a good idea of how thrilling they were in the opera. There's also a sound only video of the whole opera from her debut in the role in Zurich in 1982 (also with Carreras) but I haven't heard that yet.

I fell in love with Carmen when I saw the movie with Julia Migenes. Just saying.

I haven't actually seen her gender bendy show. Her singing and voice don't remind me of a drag queen at all though. Maybe her costume or appearance was drag-like? She just looks like a typical fat girl to me. Opera has lots of them and there are plenty of chubby chasers to go around as far as who likes what sexually. Her voice is beautiful to my ear, just she actually sounds literally sleepy and bored, but I can blame that on the conductor GEORGE MANAHAN.

Well English is not my first language but if my dictionary is correct, i suppose you are surprised or annoyed? My post is not meant to make fun of him at all. I'm just joking a little bit with him since his explanation of "i'm busing listening to Parsifal" has nothing to do with the opera itself, hence me saying "he's hard to understand". That's all :)

Woodduck is erudite, enigmatic, and highly opinionated. This can be very frustrating sometimes. Your posts are very succinct Tsquare07, please continue on just as you have been doing, communication is difficult and your posts are very appreciated! 🌞

It was an operatic " figure of speech". Basically he was saying he has other things that are interesting him more. Figures of speech- I am sure Spanish has them- are among the last things non native language speakers get to where they pick up on. "Christmas in July"= a rare occurrence. "Slow as Christmas" means it is taking a long time as Christmas never comes soon enough because you can't wait. My personal favorite is "fat as Mama Cass" but that only has meaning for people over 60 who remember her. "Snake in the grass" = trouble on the horizon. etc. Woodduck made that one up for TC Opera folk who are often obsessed with Wagner.
