Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me. The Mozart, Beethoven, Weber recital has always been my least favourite of all her studio recitals and I don't remember the 1962 version of the Weber (with Tonini?) being that much better. Maybe I was wrong?

She’s better with Tonini. 1962 was a mixed bag.

I was listening to it earlier today. The sound is pretty bad, but she sounds in pretty good form, given the date. Even though the sound is so awful, you do get an idea of the sheer size of the voice even then.

And how to sing the aria even in decline. The only negative is that her diction isn’t clear - but it’s English and only one or two of those recordings sung in English are even partially intelligible.

There’s a live version in bad sound, but she’s better than in the studio, but I get your point.

Yes, I just listened to that, she does sound better there, and again it’s nice to hear her sound more as she would have in theatre.
