"The Great Composers - The All-Eras All-Star Extravaganza" - Quarter-Finals - Game 7 of 9

The decision to use the word "Great" rather than "Greatest" was intentional - We are endeavoring to express the perception of "greatness" within this multiplicity of composers rather than as a means of identifying and labeling an individual - The intended concept is an attempt to represent and judge those composers who have elevated craftmanship into true artistry.

The Format -

9 Quarter-Final games of 20 composers with the 6 receiving the highest point totals from each moving on to one of three Semi-Final games of 18 with 6 from each moving on to the Final.

The Rules -

1.) You may vote once per calendar day.

2.) You have a total of 20 points to distribute per entry with a maximum of 5 per individual composer.

3.) Play will end with the first composer to reach 200 points.

4.) The composers with the next 5 highest point totals will advance to the Semi-Final round.

5.) In the event of a tie, each of the composers with identical scores will advance to the next round.

Note: You are welcome to comment upon any and all aspects of this competition provided such commentary is directed to this thread -

In order to facilitate game management, this thread is reserved exclusively for game play

I have a question about this rule. Does it mean that I can vote 1 minute before midnight and after that 1 minutes after midnight? (and next vote would be again 1 minute after midnight).
In theory, yes... In reality, if I see two votes one right after another and I can't immediately identify the time zone of the player and measure it against CST, I'm going to put the second one on "hold", deduct the points, and request that the player provide their location and the time that the two entries were played. The forum does not provide accurate time stamps for posts and too many players have their locations hidden thus making it next to impossible for me to tell when a vote was cast. When the player responds to my request for information with a satisfactory response, I'll add the declined points back immediately.

I realize just how draconian this sounds but I had a player who objected to what he perceived was an unfair advantage that the European-based players somehow had in determining who the "winners" would be because they were six or seven hours ahead and so he decided to change his location in "Settings" to make it appear as if he himself was in the UK - He would then vote - and change his location back to the US so that he could vote again several hours later - and then change it back again to the UK - Vote again and then change his location back to the US and vote again - giving him 3 votes within a 24 hour time frame and 4 votes in two calendar days as measured from his actual location.

If I can tell where you're at and what time it is, it won't be an issue and both boards will be counted. If I can't, then the second one is held off until the requested information is received.

I had the first three composers - Schubert, Schönberg, and Ravel - down cold - Saint-Saëns was supposed to be a lock for 4th with Rimsky-Korsakov in 5th and Saariaho nailing down the sixth and final slot after a fierce battle with Rautavaara.

Saint-Saëns, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Rautavaara were left trailing behind Respighi and Schmidt throughout the course of the game and were always in a position in which they had to play catch-up - and they were barely - barely - able to hold off unexpectedly fierce challenges from Reger and Schnittke. Rautavaara finishing almost 80 points behind Saariaho was definitely not something that I had anticipated.

This game ended days ago - and this board is outdated by a full week - Game 8 is one play away from ending - Game 9 will probably start on Sunday. You need to learn how to find the last board of the last page or your posts will be declined.
