I wonder if those who voted Gilels can tell me which recordings informed their choices. I have long known he was good but would not put him in my top 5 list. I
His performances of Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and Tchaikovsky are those I am familiar with. However, in ranking these artists (not that I feel qualified) - it came down to a matter of personal preference amongst the 20 finalists.
