Destroyer: Poison Season (2015)

Poison Season is the tenth studio album by Canadian indie rock band Destroyer. Their ninth (Kaputt) finally was one to get my "essential" stamp of approval. Checking the next one now (second spin). Even better than I remembered from the fist spin. Third spin scheduled.

Kurt Vile: Watch My Moves (2022)

Watch My Moves is the eighth studio album by American musician Kurt Vile. Continuing exploring his discography. First spin. At moments his voice sounds even more like Lou Reed than before. It's all worth listening to, but just as with the previous seven, I'm missing that bit if extra that makes a record/CD essential for me. So be it. It was still fun listening to these eight albums, many scoring "very good".

I don't know if anyone has ever watched Juna Serita's funk band on You Tube (or in real life maybe!), but they are very good. Don't panic about the invisible flautist and second sax player, she's playing the sax in the video.

Serita does an excellent 'bass face', but often the star of these jams is the drummer who is an absolute boss on her kit. For some completion there's also her song 'Princess of Funk', which I would put into the thread: How Important is Sexual Attraction to You In Your...

3-Song Playlist for a Sunday Morning

Joni Mitchell – Carey (1971)
Joni Mitchell – California (1971)
Joni Mitchell – Urge For Going (1965)

Joni Mitchell – Carey (1971)

A track off Mitchell’s 1971 album Blue, generally considered by critics to be one of the greatest albums of all time. The album peaked at Number 3 in the UK, and Number 15 in the US.

Carey was the first single released from the album, and peaked at Number 93 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Mitchell plays Appalachian dulcimer, Stephen stills is on guitar and bass guitar.

Joni Mitchell – California (1971)

California was the second single released from Blue. James Taylor plays guitar, and “Sneaky Pete” Kleinow is on pedal steel guitar. Mitchell plays guitar and dulcimer.

Joni Mitchell – Urge For Going (1965)

Urge For Going, and another song, Hunter, were older songs that had yet to make themselves onto any of her previous albums, but were tagged for release on Blue. At the last minute, Mitchell decided to remove them so that she could add two new songs, All I Want and The Last time I Saw Richard. As Mitchell was also the album’s producer, she was able to make the 11th hour substitutions.

This is a live version of that song recorded in 1965.

Urge For Going was also her first song to achieve commercial success when recorded by country singer George Hamilton IV.

Bon Iver: 22, A Million (2016)

22, A Million is the third studio album by American indie band Bon Iver. There is a clear change of direction with this album, with use of electronic effects and hip hop inspired production. As different as it is, I like what I'm hearing. Third spin after a break of a few months. Yup, essential.

A Winged Victory for the Sullen: The Undivided Five (2019)

The Undivided Five is the third studio album by the ambient music duo A Winged Victory for the Sullen. I found their debut very good, and the second album OK. Third spin of the third album. Marked improvement over the first two, and getting the 'essential' stamp of approval from me.

Destroyer: Poison Season (2015)

Poison Season is the tenth studio album by Canadian indie rock band Destroyer. Their ninth (Kaputt) finally was one to get my "essential" stamp of approval. Checking the next one now (third spin). Even better than I remembered from the first spins. Suggestions of Bowie and Reed, flirtations with many genres, from Art Rock and Jazz to Sophisti-pop. Like the previous album, essential.
