Complete symphony cycles from Koechlin, Chávez (a modern one) and Shchedrin would be nice.
Yes, Holmboe could need a more 'cinematic' and romantically coloured cycle, with a bigger orchestra, than the existing one.This is not a thread to suggest more recordings of the symphonies by Beethoven, Mahler, Bruckner, Brahms, Shostakovich, Sibelius, etc. The goal is to indicate which symphony cycles by other composers of your preferences should have more recordings, or what should be recorded in their entirety for the first time.
Mine are: Vagn Holmboe, Gavriil Popov and Hilding Rosenberg
What about you?
I'm not sure I'd agree with the first point but a 'bigger' orchestra may help.Yes, Holmboe could need a more 'cinematic' and romantically coloured cycle, with a bigger orchestra, than the existing one.
I think by Peter Maxwell Davies, symphonies 7,8,9 are not available in recordings.Somewhat obscure:
Searle;
(Maxwell) Davies (no complete cycle available; some symphonies not recorded);
Farrenc.
Perhaps not obscure enough (?):
Honegger;
Tippett.
True. I know three of the Honegger sets. I don't know why PMD's symphonies don't get recorded again - or at least those three that we lack. PMD is relatively popular on this site but seems not to be with conductors?I think by Peter Maxwell Davies, symphonies 7,8,9 are not available in recordings.
But for Honegger, there are at least 4 complete sets (Baudo, Dutoit, Plasson, Brogli-Sacher).
