Love it
Is there a Sawallisch Parsifal?I only have Barenboim and Swallisch. Maybe I need this one. I like Meier a lot.
Oops, yes and no. Its an Opera Depot set. I didn't realize when I posted that it was from OD. So for commercial releases I only have Barenboim. Is there a Sawallisch Parsifal?
Oh wow, I forgot about those Wagner box sets I purchased here and there. I also have Parsifal with Goodall, Karajan, and Knappertsbusch. Giving Goodall a listen now since it has Meier.Oops, yes and no. Its an Opera Depot set. I didn't realize when I posted that it was from OD. So for commercial releases I only have Barenboim.
Very interesting. Both off the Warner Classics re-releases.Be interesting to separate by acts to see where the differences are.
I meant the timing of act act, not each disc.Very interesting. Both off the Warner Classics re-releases.

Oops. Well if this is a three act (i see three voorspiels) then Barenboim Act 1 is disks 1&2 and then the remaining disks are each an act. For Goodall 20:59 minutes of disk 2 is Act 2; 15.09 of disk 3 is Act 3. So if I did my math right,I meant the timing of act act, not each disc.
Ralph Moore says,Oops. Well if this is a three act (i see three voorspiels) then Barenboim Act 1 is disks 1&2 and then the remaining disks are each an act. For Goodall 20:59 minutes of disk 2 is Act 2; 15.09 of disk 3 is Act 3. So if I did my math right,
Acts 1/ 2/ 3
Barenboim: 111.29 / 67:52 / 77:20
__Goodall: 117.21 / 81:30 / 85:46
My numbers match the disk times for totals, but not the totals posted here, which was from PrestoMusic site listings. I would go with the back of the CDs for greater accuracy so the total difference is closer to half an hour:The mid-80’s saw the two longest recordings of Parsifal by Goodall and Levine. Goodall here seems to me to the more successful practitioner of the patient approach; the WNO plays beautifully and Goodall always had a gift for leisurely yet portentous phrasing so that the sonority and rich harmonisation of Wagner’s music are constantly to the fore.
Interesting Goodall is 4 hrs 29 minutes. Barenboim 4 hrs 10 minutes.
I guess I flunk math. Those numbers don't add up, the CD timings for Goodall are over 4hrs 40 mins
I should try Levine. It is nice to take it slow and savor every note!I like all the Parsifals, but prefer the longer ones,Goodall both recordings, Levine both recordings.
