It is idiocy, but fascinating none the less. If I am to be limited to 10 composers, then I want a bit of diversity (so at most 1 of Les Six!) and composers who wrote a diversity of music (not you, Scarlatti!). Here goes...
Sibelius
Vaughan Williams
Rachmaninoff
Beethoven
(OK, those four were always going to be on the list. Now it gets more difficult...)
Bax
Hindemith
Ives
Ravel
(Two places left. I want some energy and joy, so...)
Arnold
(And finally, rather to my surprise, I think...)
Schubert

I'll come up with a different list tomorrow!

Notable absentees. Or at least as far as I can see. And not counting honourable mentions:

Monteverdi
Purcell
Mussorgsky
Janáček
Scriabin
Webern
Varèse
Cage
Dutilleux
Boulez
Feldman

(And I have more procrastinating to do.)

Having very little experience in the vast genre of classical music, my choices I’m sure will be predictable, but may change as I discover more and delve deeper into this incredible genre.
In no particular order :-
JS Bach
Beethoven
Haydn
Mozart
Tchaikovsky
Albinoni
Brahms
Sibelius
Grieg
Handel

Thank you for taking the trouble! I know and love a lot of Scelsi, but I wanted to know your opinion.

Like for Kokkonen. For his top-notch cello concerto.

Desert Island List...? No order of importance:

1. Debussy
2. Mieczyslaw Weinberg
3. Jean Francaix
4. Eduard Tubin
5. Bruckner
6. Satie
7. Mozart
8. Hindemith
9 Thelonious Monk
10. Chopin

It's an under-pressure list and we all know that after-the-fact you want to make substitutions. I slipped Monk in there, because I couldn't leave him behind.
