I'm really new here but my ex-boyfriend who uses this site used to say about groups on here but I can't find them :(
Was it removed or something? :(

Two ways to find them:

Go to your profile and on the left hand side at the bottom you will se that you are a member of no groups. You should also have the option to "join groups".

Alternately, on the main menu bar under the Community down arrow menu you will see groups. This will also allow you to see the groups and join them.

Enjoy.

It seems that we have lost the ability to edit in social groups, also group creators have lost the moderating powers they have over their group. I suppose this will remain this way in the future?

Or return to the status quo ante, where we had editing without time limits.

I don't know how you keep your sanity using a smartphone to post with.

We changed the editing privileges in the Groups because members were making inappropriate posts and then deleting them. Members can do that on the main forum, but moderators have the ability to see all edits. We do not have that ability in the Group area. We don't absolutely need to have a record of misbehavior to issue infractions, but we vastly prefer to have it. So unfortunately the actions of a small number of members has led to this change in the Group area.

To add:

Some users were misusing the Social Groups for their own personal sounding board to protest the rules of the site. Some users were submitting messages to the social groups then deleting them, thus removing any evidence of their postings which would warrant infractions.

Due to a possible error in the vBulletin software settings, edits/deletions within Social Groups are wiped from the servers and no longer retrievable, which is not the way the software is supposed to run. Only admins have the right/power to permanently delete content off the site.

We are working the issue and hopefully it problem can be resolved in a manner that is pleasing to the majority of the membership. Until then, no edits in groups are allowed.

Sane tantum a nobis quaeri oportet quantum humanae rationis intuitus ad diuinitatis ualet celsa conscendere. Idemque in ceteris. I agree.

The Irrelevant Picture Thread will definitely have to take up temporary residence in the Opera Subforum now...

There are 2 separate problems. One is that, for reasons we don't understand, the vBulletin software as presently configured does not allow moderators to see edited posts in the Groups area. So if someone posts something and then edits that post, we can't see the original post. The other problem is that people post something in violation of the Terms of Service and then delete it, or they use bbCodes to "hide" text. We could become aware of the original problem but we don't have a proper record of that problem because we can't see the original unedited post.

The best solution is to have the Groups area work in a similar fashion to the regular forum. But given that disabling bbCodes has strong negative consequences for people who don't "push the limits", we might just decide to re-enable those functions.

I can see the problem now and thank you for the explanation.

It's good to be able to freely discuss subjects like politics so if that's the price we pay for being able to do that in a 'group', then so be it.
