Hello

I am in need of some help in identifying a piece of music. In the excellent World at War series (narrated by Laurence Oliver) and at the beginning of episode 2 [Distant War] there is a piece of classical music that is played to signify the German attack on Poland. The music is used in between the Thames logo and The World at War title screen. The music is then used a few times throughout the episode. If anyone is able to identify the piece of music and it's composer I would be very much grateful as I've been searching for it a very long time.

Thank you

Video here:

Is there any reason to suppose it isn't part of Carl Davis's original score? though the music you're referring to feels less polished than the theme. In the rhythmic sections in 7/4 it's like the 'Dies irae' from Britten's War Requiem. It's not the Britten, but that's worth listening to anyway.

Chibiabos83 Thank you for the reply. I did go through the soundtrack and other Carl Davis work but could not find it. I have discovered recently that there is two World at War soundtracks, one being an extended version. I am yet to check out the latter. I shall try you suggestion also.
